This week is the first of fourth quarter, and the beginning of our unit on South America!

We will be starting a three week project on Monday called the Council of South America. It is a similar to a model United Nations, except we focus on the continent of South America rather then the whole world. It is an exciting project, where the students get to play different roles in class. The first week of the project is dedicated to getting to know the South American continent. The second and third weeks are dedicated to debating and solving a real world issue that South America is currently facing. It is a project that puts together many of the concepts that the students have learned all year into a real world application.

Please remember that COD books are due every Friday. Our next test will be at the end of April – stay tuned for more information.

Voices For Darfur

March 7, 2008 · 18 Comments

What a cool thing! There is a learning campaign about the Darfur region in Sudan going on right now through a blog! The goal of the blog is to educate people, especially students, about the genocide in Darfur, and get as many K-12 students to respond to the blog as possible in a 48 hour period. Our students were very excited to participate. You can check it out yourself at http://manyvoicesdarfur.blogspot.com. Also, some of the kids who had some extra time in class after posting to the Darfur blog posted their responses here. What a great way to end our unit on Africa. Take action!
