What a great last week before the break we have had! I spent some time this week sharing my experiences in Korea with my students. I was so impressed with how excited they were to hear about South Korea, and how attentive they were. I spent two whole days with them showing them a slideshow and talking to them about what it is like there. I also brought in some goodies from Korea, including kimchi, for them to sample. They asked such great questions, and seemed very interested in it, especially in the DMZ.

I hope that you all have a wonderful break, and enjoy your holidays. See you in two weeks!

This week in geography we watched the video “Everest, 50 Years on the Mountain”, from National Geographic. The film follows the story of three men who are trying to follow in their father’s footsteps by climbing Mt. Everest. The three men are the sons of Tenzing Norgay, Edmund Hillary, and Barry Bishop. Tenzing and Hillary were the first men to summit on Mt. Everest in 1953, and Bishop was the first American to climb the mountain.  The kids really enjoyed the video, which follows the men from Base Camp to the summit, and addresses issues surrounding Mt. Everst and the Sherpa community.

Only one more week until Winter Break! We will spend this last week focusing on Eastern Asia, primarily the Koreas. Have a great weekend!

We have moved on through the rest of Asia, and we will be spending the rest of the quarter learning about Eastern Asia, focusing on the Koreas. I am getting very excited to share with the students my experiences in Korea, and I know that they are getting excited to hear about it as well.

Parents, please feel free to contact me if you ever have questions or are just curious about what we are doing in class. I know that many of you are reading this – you are welcome to leave me comments here, or you can email me at kdensmore@lewispalmer.org.

Please remember that COD’s are due every Friday. Keep up the great work, kids!
